Voice Actors Needed for Audiobook Narrating!

Are you a voice actor/talent looking to earn additional income by narrating books?

This could well be your next gig!

We are a large ghostwriting service currently looking to hire voice talents like you to narrate and edit the books our writing team produces. We require you to narrate and edit audiobooks so that they are ready for publishing to platforms like ACX (following audio submission requirements).

If you are looking for a steady flow of narrating jobs without needing to submit auditions, and whilst bringing in a good steady earning for you, then keep reading.

We're seeking narrators for both fiction and nonfiction. Both with slightly different terms as explained below. If you're someone that is quality-focused and can work in an exciting and fast-paced environment then we may have a position for you. More details below.

Nonfiction narrators

For nonfiction topics, we currently pay $70 per 10,000 words. Projects range from 10,000 words, all way up to 50,000 words. We produce projects on various topics such as business, self-help, diet, etc.

The ideal talent for nonfiction would be you that understand the right voice tone and narrating style suitable for a specific topic. For example, self-help books are best with authoritative tones and clear narrating. We also seek you that are expressive with their narrating and avoid monotone reading as this is difficult to follow and boring for the listeners. Overall, we are after you that wants to ensure the listener has a great experience and you do this by delivering great quality work all around. From the narration to the editing of the piece.

Fiction Narrators

Our rate for fiction narrating is $90 per 10,000 words. Projects range from 20,000 words, all the way up to 150,000 words.

Our rate for fiction is higher as we expect a lot of expressiveness, emotion, tension, and characterization in your narrating. We should be able to distinguish the narrator from the male character, and that from the female character, etc. You're a narrator that can find the balance in articulating what you narrate, as under-articulation can sound lazy and over articulation can sound unbelievable and unnatural. The balance is key and for this to be achieved you have to dive into each character and the story.

Essential skills

  • * Great, but balanced articulator (natural articulation, not lazy nor overdone where it sounds unnatural)
  • * You are a master of pacing. We really value the skill to know when to hold a pause to let something sink in.
  • * You have a consistent narrative voice. The first page sounds like the last. It's unlikely you'll be recording each book cover to cover, but it's key that when you return that you can pick up the same energy and delivery.
  • *You're expressive and engaging. Not monotone.
  • * Committed to delivering an enjoyable listening experience.

Other requirements

  • - You are experienced with ACX narrating and the audio submission requirements.
  • - You have narrated and edited at least 3 books for ACX.
  • - You are native British, Canadian or American.
  • - You can record and edit (market-ready) 10,000 words in 3-4 days.
  • - You are looking for long-term work.
  • - You are reliable, well-spoken and open to constructive criticism.

Few things to consider

We love our staff and because of this love we have to ensure clients get the best experience ever, every time. This allows us to keep you busy with great projects. This is why we always offer clients unlimited revisions. Now, this can be challenging and counter-productive when it comes to narrating, so our process is slightly different to balance both fairness and still deliver an exceptional experience to clients. We do this is by providing progress for client-review and having an attitude that is open to help the client and provide solutions. Clients can review the work early on and at multiple stages and this way we can assure that they are happy.

We also use our own ACX profile but we'll add your name as a narrator as well when the piece is published. We have a publishing assistant for ACX. You may also add a segment of the piece as a sample to your own ACX profile.

Finally, communication is really important at HotGhostWriter. Unlike other ghostwriting companies, we have open communication between all staff and clients on our platform. This makes things smoother. Therefore fast communication on your end within our platform is vital.

Ready?! Click the button below to apply!

The application process includes multiple questions and an area for you to supply your account so that our recruitment may review your samples again. You may also provide additional samples if you can (there is an attachment section for this).

For nonfiction, we'd love to see a variety of different subjects to get a sense of your different styles and how you tackle different subjects.

For fiction, we definitely want to see dialogue and how you approach different characters. If you're comfortable with adult content (not compulsory), a segment of an adult would also be nice for us to review.

We will get in contact with you after reviewing your answers and samples. Good Luck!
