Starting your audiobook narration with Hotghostwriter
So we’ve completed your amazing book, have published in on KDP and are now excited to get the narrating underway? That’s awesome and we are eager to get you a high-quality audio version for your readers to enjoy!
In this page, we will break down the steps you need to follow for us to be able to begin the narration and have the files uploaded for you directly on ACX. The steps are simple so let me take you through them step-by-step!
Step 1. Claiming your book on ACX
1. Got to www.ACX.com and click Login at the top of your screen. Here you need to login into the same Amazon account you will be using to publish your book as eBook/paperback on KDP
2. Once you’ve logged in, you need to search and ‘claim’ your book that is already up and live on Amazon KDP. Do this by first clicking on ‘Add Your Title’ at the top right, then search for your author name and add your book by clicking on ‘This is my book’
3. Next, you will be prompted to choose ‘how you prefer to produce your audiobook’. Choose the option, ‘I am looking for someone to narrate and produce my audiobook’ by clicking ‘continue’.
4. The next page will display the ACX legal agreement which you must read and accept to continue. Once you’re ready, tick the box ‘I have read…and agree to its terms’ and click ‘Agree and Continue’
Step 2. Adding project details
1. On the next page you’ll have the ‘Title details’ of the book.
Here's what you should add on this page
- Step 1. Describe your book – Leave as is for now.
- Step 2. Copyright information - Add copyright information (your name, the current year and your name again under ‘audio copyright owner’)
- Step 3. My book is - Select whether your book is fiction or non-fiction.
- Step 4. The best category for my book is - Choose your book’s category.
- Step 5. Do you want to receive auditions for this project - You want to select, ‘No, I already have selected my narrator and would like to make an offer right away’.
- Step 6. Describe the ideal narrator’s voice - Add the Gender and the Language (Leave accent, voice age and vocal style blank)
- Step 7. Additional comments - Leave blank
- Step 8. Audition script - Leave blank
- Click on ‘Continue’
2. Next page you need to add the Distribution information
- Step 1. How many words are in your book? – Add the wordcount of the book (example: 10000)
- Step 2. What territory rights do you own? - This should be typically 'World'.
- Click on 'Save and Continue'
3. Next, you’ll be taken to the Review page, here have a brief look to ensure everything is in order and then click on ‘Make Offer’
Step 3. Make offer
1. Here you will be able to make your offer to us
Under Producer Name, type 'HG Productions' and select us from the drop-down menu! If you’ve selected us, you should see our logo show up underneath.
2. Complete all the steps
- Step 1. You want to produce an audiobook for - Ensure that you have the correct book selected
- Step 2. How would you like to distribute your audiobook? – We recommend selecting the first option ‘Exclusive distribution through Amazon, Audible and iTunes’ which pays a 40% royalty.
- Step 3. How will you pay your audiobook producer? – Select ‘Pay for production’ and enter the number 1 next to the dollar amount box.
- Step 4. What’s your schedule? - Add to both a date 15 days from today. We will confirm the actual deadline with you.
- Step 5. This offer will expire in – Select the third option which is ’72 hours (3 days)’
- Click ‘Preview offer’
3. The final step, confirm the offer terms look good and click on ‘Send offer’
Step 4. Review and accept first 15 mins
1. After we accept your offer, we will upload a 15 min sample directly to ACX. You will have to review and accept that sample so that we can begin uploading each chapter
- Step. 1 Login to your ACX account
- Step 2. Scroll down and click on 'In production'
- Step 3. Click on 'Review First 15 Minutes'
2. Review and accept the 15 min sample
- Step 1. Scroll down and press play to listen to the audio
- Step 2. If you're happy, click on 'Approve'
Step 5. Review and accept full production
1. As the project progresses, we will upload each chapter and required section directly to ACX which you can review and approve.
- Once you have approaved the entire project, we will confirm payment on our end and this will go to ACX for review. This typically takes quite a few business days.
- ACX will then confirm that everything is in order and your book will be available for sale! (If they request any adjustments, do not worry as we will take care of those for you)
And that's it, you will have your high quality audiobook published and ready to begin generating sales!
