The position

Our Design Managers lead our design team of cover designers, illustrators, and interior designers to producing the highest quality services that help our client’s books stand out in the marketplace.
We’re looking for a superstar that can not only coordinate the day-to-day design operations but leaders that can drive innovation in the product, process, and overall experience for the client.


Here’s what’s required to fill this position at one of the fastest-growing book production companies:


Responsibilities

  • Initiating and assigning design projects. This includes gathering all necessary details from the client, pairing them with the best design team for their project, answering any questions, and getting projects underway.
  • Daily monitoring and managing of all design projects, ensuring that we’re producing great products, delivering a great experience, and always on schedule.
  • Engaging with clients with no design services to gauge interest and discuss options.
  • Collaborating with other Managers to ensure every project flows efficiently and smoothly, even when transitioning from one stage to the next.
  • Working with the Production Manager to drive innovation and improvements to product quality, client experience, and overall production and management processes.
  • Assisting Recruitment Manager with hiring new designers for your team.

Skills & Experience 

  • Knowledgeable and experienced with graphic design. Experience with formatting/interior design is a plus.
  • Familiarity with the self-publishing or ghostwriting industry would be ideal.
  • Management or some form of leadership work experience.
  • Leadership, communication, and general people management skills.
  • Ability to problem solve and make decisions quickly.
  • Comfortable with working independently and being accountable for the success of an entire team.
  • Ability to create and improve processes for more efficiency. A propensity to ask, “how can we do this better?” and the capability to execute improvements.
  • A knack for staying calm in high-stress situations and handling a high volume of demands. Ability to prioritize and take action accordingly, while leading the same with staff.
  • Time management and organizational skills visible in a strong ability to coordinate people and tasks into an efficient process.
  • Some sales and/or customer service experience is a plus.
